Bluegrass at the Village

Sunday, August 14 2016

Celebrating its 10th Anniversary, Bluegrass at the Village 2016 will take you from the Irish Immigrants’ roots of bluegrass through the modern-day boot-stomping Americana. With some of the best musicians in Southeastern Wisconsin, this year’s lineup include: • Frogwater • Pickin’ Up Speed • Thistledown Thunders • Chickenwire Empire • The WhiskeyBelles. New to Bluegrass at the Village this year, are Frogwater with its Irish influence and special featured and ever-popular, The WhiskeyBelles with their three-part harmony and entertaining style.

In addition to the outstanding bluegrass music, young and talented fiddlers show off their talent around the village. A wide selection of food and beverages can be enjoyed, including craft beers at the beer tent. Guests can show off their talents by participating in the “Kitchen Band”. Some of the homemade instruments will be the washboard, washtub, stump fiddle and jug. This year’s marketplace will showcase local area artists who make handmade soaps, fused glass and baskets, to name a few. There are also raffles with prizes donated by local area businesses. It is great fun for all ages!

Tickets may be purchased the day of the event and are a real bargain: $10.00 for Adults and $8.00 for seniors and students. Children 5 years of age and under are free. The grounds open at 11:30 and music starts at 12:30 and music continues to 6:00PM. Rain-or-Shine.

Firehouse Restoration Progress Update

Photo of the front of the SAHS firehouse with progress made on restoration

Taken June 3 2015

In response to the challenge issued by Port Washington State Bank, we are on our way with the first donation.

The latest photo shows the many layers of paint removed, revealing the Chicago pink brick.
Note the middle section showing a repair made sometime over the more than hundred year history.
Midwest Restoration suggested that although a repair can indicate a historical timeline. However, replacing with same style and color brick restores the original integrity.

The 1912 Fire House is an ideal example of function which was likely the primary goal of construction in a rural farming community during the early 20th century.
As the building stands today, we are given insight into lifestyles of the time. A time that speaks to the beauty of practicality.

Along with housing documents, photos and artifacts relative to the area, the restored structure stands for endurance, longevity and progress.

The Saukville Area Historical Society acknowledges the support from the Village of Saukville, PWSB and personal donations by those dedicated to “saving our history”. Please donate today. As a non profit organization your gift is tax deductible.

Make checks payable to SAHS 200 N. Mill St. Box 80015 Saukville, WI 53080
